Inevitability
Resistance is futile.
The moment I hear this phrase, I picture aliens. Having just landed on Earth in their spacecraft, they announce this solemn declaration to onlooking humans. While this saying may be steeped in science fiction lore, it's an absolutely notable law of Nature.
Folks often talk of inevitability and fate. According to the Vedic Worldview, here's the one thing that's inevitable: Evolution.
Great news, right? Whether you like it or not, you're going to grow. You're going to evolve. It's simply a matter of how much you're going to resist it. Think of swimming in a river. Most people are swimming upstream. They may think they're getting somewhere with all of their splashing about, but they're still slowly and steadily being carried downstream.
That's most people in life. They're rigidly trying to move against their own evolution. And it's exhausting. Imagine if they simply stopped and allowed themselves to be carried. It's a marvelous feeling.
In our practice, we're doing even more than that. By taking time twice a day to remove stress and become infinitely adaptive, we're not simply ending our upstream struggle or even passively floating along. We're moving with the river. We can see what lies ahead and choose the best path forward. When we stop resisting evolution, we begin to have a say in how we grow; rather than growth and change being enforced.
That's why meditators often note their lives have become more frictionless. They're not getting in their own way.
Why delay the inevitable? Our evolution is going to occur whether we like it or not. Let's have a say in how it happens and get on with it.
