Gratitude and Deserving Power

Whatever it is that you're grateful for, remember that you've earned it.

Gratitude is a wonderful thing. It allows us to enjoy what we have. But most Western worldviews and traditions are missing out on the full understanding of what's actually happening.

Gratitude can often stem from feelings of unworthiness. We don't believe we deserve the things that we have in our lives and so we're grateful that we've received it nonetheless.

This doesn't align with the Vedic Worldview. Rather than gratitude, what's more often referred to in this tradition is deserving power. In Sanskrit, the word is Punya. We can think of it as spiritual merit or a cosmic credit rating. Think of the law of reciprocity: whatever we give, that's what we'll receive. So from a Vedic Perspective, whatever it is that you're grateful for, you've earned it.

This isn't narcissistic thinking, it's acknowledging and celebrating what we've been putting out. It's so easy for folks to use this thinking in negative terms: something unsavory happens and they say 'of course.'

What if you expected the best? When we invest in becoming the best versions of ourselves, that investment has returns. We start receiving the best in every way.

You deserve the best. The more we recognize and experience the perks deserving power, the more we find ourselves saying 'of course' when acknowledging the wonders of life.
